Begin Again

A new blog and many new adventures!

It’s been a long time dear creative friends. Things got kinda busy, then they got complicated, then I took some time out to recover from illness, then got busy again. You know, life. It happens to us all right? Truth is it’s been almost five years since I showed up regularly on my blog and I’ve missed you.

I’ve been keeping up with social media and you can find me regularly on Instagram and on Facebook), but the further behind I got with blogging, the more overwhelming it felt to begin again. I had this crazy idea that I would have to catch you all up on everything that had been happening and of course the longer I didn’t write the more overwhelmed I became.

And so I decided to just take those words “begin again” which I often use as a fun prompt in my painting workshops, and with maybe just a teeny little nudge from our baby girl Sienna, who now goes by Cece, who is all grown up and does a fabulous job as my creative director, editing videos, building websites and handling registrations and emails, I made the decision to take the leap to just start where I am, slowly, little by little and feel my way back into this blogging space.

Some of you have been with me for years now, since the girls were little and I was just beginning this crazy wonderful amazing art journey. Some of you have come to know me over the last few years and I’d love for us to grow together as friends in this space.

Right at this very moment mi amor and I are travelling in Montenegro, which is the country just below Croatia. It’s all very new as we’ve only been here for a few days and it’s the first time we’re literally lost for words as we have no knowledge base for the language here.

Last night we perused the menu at the restaurant we had chosen here in Zabljak (I dare you to try and say that for a start!) and apart from the fact that it looked like meat, meat and more meat, we were trying to figure out just how said meat might be prepared before ordering.

The lovely but abrupt young waiter was as helpful as he could be with his limited English, of which we were very appreciative because we have zero, zilch, nista. Earlier we had tried to choose red wine and he had pointed to one on the menu. Red we said? Yes black he replied. Close enough I guess. Spying both a Cabernet and a Merlot listed I pointed with a smile. Red? No! Yellow he replied with absolute certainty, yellow wine! Ok then, we’ll just take the house red, thank you!

In an attempt to find out how different dishes were prepared he left in a little bit of a fluster and came back to the table with his phone and good old google translate!
Hmmm, scorpions would most definitely have to be on the side.

In a little while we were served up with two massive plates of pork, three flattened steaks rolled and stuffed then skewered and grilled. Marcos had the extra flourish of being stuffed with cheese then breaded and fried. For the hundredth time on this trip we said to each other, when will we ever learn. We need to start ordering one meal between two and a salad!

Oh well we’ve begun a new habit of taking our dinner leftovers out for a walk to feed the stray cats wherever we are. Makes us miss our own kitties less.

So I’ll leave you here. Phew! Beginning again can be hard! Mostly the procrastinating part though!

Here's a few pics of our travels so far here in Montenegro!

Until next time!
Lots of love and creative mojo your way,
Tracy

I agree, a great start to your blogging, well done!! I too look forward to seeing more of your stories and thoughts on your life journey, you write with such wit and humor, but will these pop into our in box?? I only happened to see this because I got the email for the face fascination course coming up and this was listed at the bottom, and I’d like to have a reminder of when you’ve posted.

I’ve enjoyed reading about your trip on Instagram – Montenegro looks like a beautiful place! I’d need to figure out the food though since I don’t eat meat LOL. Looking forward to more pictures and more stories from your trip!!

As a beginner artist learning the language of artful expression
I’m looking forward to applying the Begin Again Metaphor to my practice with paint rather than staying stuck in my head !
    Thanks for the Inspiration
